Committee on Economic and Foreign Policies

The key responsibilities of Committee on Economic Policies are:

  1. To inquire and examine matters related to foreign and domestic investmests;

  2. To inquire into and examine matters related to the regulation of econommic activities;

  3. To inquire into and examine matters related to foreign and domestic commerce;

  4. To inquire into and examine matters related to land use, publicly-owned corporation with an economic or commercial vocation and economic infrastructures;

  5. To report to Parliament as to the results of inquiry or review on such matters subject to the inquiry or review;

  6. To recommend as to what measures are to be taken under procedural and reform changes in such matters subject to the inquiry or review;

  7. To review important new policy initiatives relating to Foreign affairs and Trade and give its opinion to the Government before their implementation;

  8. To scrutinize the qualifications, experience, and suitability of proposed Vanuatu’s diplomatic and trade representatives overseas prior to their appointment;

  9. To enquire into the issue concerning Vanuatu’s Diplomatic Passport and the alleged sale of the same;

  10. To enquire into the management and operation of the Ministry of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, the Vanuatu’s Overseas Missions, the Department of Trade and Department of Foreign Affairs;

  11. To summon Government officials and public to assist it in its work;

  12. To consider, inquire into and examine Government bills;

  13. To consider and examine annual reports of Government Ministries and report to Parliament;

  14. To receive briefings or initiate inquires onto matters related to the subject areas of the Committee;

  15. To consider and examine any Order made by a Minister under an enactment related to the subject areas of the Committee;

  16. To consider any matter, business and question as may be referred by Parliament from time to time; and

  17. Include such other duties as assigned to Committee by the Standing Orders approved by Parliament.

The Committee on Economics and Foreign Policies is inviting any interested person, organisation and group of people to provide written submissions to the Committee, expressing their views and experiences regarding the Vanuatu Labour Mobility Program.
