Cette année, le Vanuatu a eu l'honneur d'accueillir le Sommet Régional sur la Gouvernance des Statistiques, organisé avec soin par le Bureau des statistiques du Vanuatu et sous l'égide respectée du Secrétariat de la Communauté du Pacifique.
L'événement s'est tenu au Warwick Le Lagon du 8 au 11 octobre 2024.
Une réunion parallèle a rassemblé des bureaux de statistiques, des experts et des partenaires de développement de la région du Pacifique pour partager leurs expériences et établir des liens sur des questions statistiques clés. La réunion s'articule autour du thème « Innovation statistique dans le Pacifique ».
Des statisticiens d'autres États du Pacifique ont présenté l'impact significatif de l'innovation en matière de données sur le travail gouvernemental.
M. Maxime BANGA, Secrétaire général respecté du Parlement de Vanuatu, a eu l'occasion de participer à une présentation conjointe avec le directeur du VBoS, M. Andy CALO, lors de l'ouverture de la réunion régionale. Ils ont mis en lumièrele succès de la phase I du projet de collaboration entre le Parlement et le Bureau des statistiques de Vanuatu, qui s'est concentré sur le « renforcement de la capacité analytique du Parlement de Vanuatu».
Au cours de la phase I du projet, le personnel du VBoS a formé de manière exhaustive le personnel du Parlement de Vanuatu sur la manière d'accéder et de comprendre leurs données fiables, en mettant l'accent sur la façon dont les données peuvent soutenir le travail minutieux des commissions parlementaires permanentes.
Ils ont également produit des profils de circonscription, encourageant les membres du Parlement à les utiliser pour comprendre les profils de leurs circonscriptions et proposer des recommandations politiques. Un député a ainsi utilisé le profil de sa circonscription pour modifier le système bancaire.
M. BANGA a exprimé sa profonde gratitude au Bureau des statistiques de Vanuatu pour le soutien qu'il apporte au Parlement en fournissant des données précises et essentielles qui peuvent être utilisées dans les débats parlementaires.
Il a souligné que des statistiques accessibles et précises aideraient les Commissions permanentes du Parlement à examiner efficacement les politiques gouvernementales et à proposer des recommandations pertinentes.
Au cours de la phase I du projet, les deux institutions ont signé un protocole d'accord à Pelé Island, Efaté, leur permettant de partager des informations de manière proactive afin de promouvoir la bonne gouvernance.
Le Bureau des statistiques de Vanuatu et le Parlement de Vanuatu continueront à travailler sur la deuxième phase du projet, qui porte sur la « numérisation pour mesurer la performance du gouvernement ».
