On Thursday, October 10th, the Office of the Clerk of Parliament had the honour of hosting members of the Bureau of the Mele chieftaincy at Parliament.
This special visit was initiated by the Bureau Members to pay respects to the institution and to gain valuable insights into the workings of Parliament.
The significance of this visit was particularly moving for some members of the Bureau who had experienced the challenges leading up to our country's independence.
This visit not only honoured their history but also provided an opportunity to celebrate the democratic values we hold dear. It allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of how our democratic governance system operates and the pivotal role that Parliament plays in representing the people's voices.
By fostering a dialogue between the Chiefdom and parliamentary institutions, they were able to see how the governance of the Chiefdom could align with our parliamentary democracy.
Traditional leaders and modern institutions must collaborate to build a strong and prosperous future for our nation. This meeting signifies an important step towards creating synergy between chieftaincy and Parliament, promoting greater understanding and mutual commitment to the well-being of our communities.
The Parliament of Vanuatu extends its gratitude to Hon. Gloria KING for making this visit possible.
